Just Who Is this Josh Ingue?
Updated: Aug 23, 2021
I’ve been playing around with the fake news anchor, Josh Ingue, since the pandemic began. It’s fun to play a character, even if it’s just hiding behind a costume and fake glasses—being somebody else gives you a lot of freedom to be ridiculous. And since our first video in this series felt like a news story with an April-Fools-Day-twist, I decided to incorporate him and parody the cable news universe. (Don’t worry—we’ll poke fun at the other side of the spectrum, too.)
The most important thing was to convey how serious antibiotic resistance is. Using Josh to deliver the facts seemed like a good fit, but 60 seconds isn’t a lot of time to convey an important topic. Instead, we decided to focus on a single aspect of it, knowing we could use other videos to explore other issues in more depth. We used the rest of the time to squeeze in as many jokes and references as we could.
It’s nice to work with a team that brings different skill sets to the collaboration. I’m part of this team because Lance saw my “50 Ways to Love Your Mother” video series (celebrating the 50th anniversary of Earth Day), and suggested to Laura to bring me onboard. Our weekly meetings are a lot of fun and everyone contributes something to make the final product. As a solo performer, I don’t have the opportunity to work so closely with a team, so it’s a nice change of pace for me. Stay tuned—there are more videos on the way.
